ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (ACLS)
Candidates will demonstrate competency in recognising and initiating the management of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest conditions. Participants will be able to apply a systematic and algorithm-based approach to the management of respiratory arrest, ventricular fibrillation (VF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT), pulseless electrical activity (PEA), asystole, stable and unstable tachycardias and bradycardias. Candidates will be able to identify and treat ischaemic chest pain, expedite the care of acute coronary syndromes and stroke, as well as to provide effective initial care to reduce disability and/or death.

ACLS is a practical, simulated case-based course. Learning is facilitated by means of extensive hands-on practice, with each participant getting several opportunities to lead their team in simulated clinical scenarios.
ASSESSMENT AND PREPARATION
A comprehensive study package comprising a 183-page American Heart Association ACLS Provider Manual and Pocket Reference Card, together with a 102-page Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care is supplied prior to ACLS Course participation. Candidates will receive an American Heart Association ACLS Card and Certificate upon successful Course completion.
